Defense Wins CHAMPIONSHIPS

The team put together a great defensive game against an extremely talented and well coached Niles Notre Dame team. Our guys were pumped for this game and wanted to prove a point against some kids that they grew up with that happened to be wearing the other jersey. We tell our guys we want to be a program that wins championships…we got one down.

Winning a game like this says a lot about our program. Just proves the foundation that James Farr, Garrett Jones, and Clarke Rosenberg laid down last year is being built upon by our guys this year.

Also congrats to Coach Necus Mayne & Coach Travis Ransom for winning Thanksgiving tournaments with the Sophomore and Freshman teams. Those two guys are doing a fantastic job with their teams. I have no doubt that the players being coached by these two will have no problem adjusting to the Varsity level win it is their time.

Right now we are a program of champions, but we have to stay humble, respect our opponents and continue to get better each day.

EVANSTON BASKETBALL!!!

Evanston vs Chicago Taft…Good way to start the season…

Our team played well but as you would expect with it only being the first game of the season we still have a lot to work on. Check out the link below to see what Coach Ellis and Josh Irving had to say about the game.

Also congrats to Coach Necus Mayne and the sophomore team on the two wins they picked up tonight. I know Coach Mayne has those guys getting after it on defense and we look forward to more success from that group of young players.

Evanston Basketball!

Big Plans from a Big Man – Randy Ollie

I’ve been reflecting a lot lately, thinking about how quickly high school went and how this is my last year to walk out onto a basketball court wearing an Evanston jersey. It’s daunting to think that this season  games will be won or lost because of my efforts on the court. Similarly, its been a novel experience to have underclassmen that look up to me and watch my game intently, treating me as a role model. Much like how I did in my underclassmen years. I used to just have to worry about myself and my own team, but now that I’m a senior I not only have to worry about just my team, but the Evanston basketball program as a whole. Our preseason training was rigorous, and we put in a lot of work on and off the court. We lifted weights and played four days a week, and in October we started our preseason conditioning regiment, conditioning 4 days a week as well. Predictably, there were days when I wanted to give up and throw in the towel, when I thought that their were things that I couldn’t do or were impossible. However, as a team, I think we all soon learned that even when things seem impossible, if we give it our best effort and support each other, then the sky is the limit. Everyone on the team goes hard and we work to  get better everyday, improving all aspects of our respective games. I”m most excited about this season because after losing Clarke, James and Garrett no one expects much from us this year. But these low expectations only serve to motivate us in practice and want to prove people wrong because, we’re not going to just be agood team this year. We’re going to be great!
